Eek My Idalia Photography Pinterest Account hit a huge milestone last month! I reached 2 million average monthly viewers! Now, this number is just a vanity metric and I always try not to place much importance on those types of stats (some people actually choose to ignore this metric) BUT since Pinterest is my highest referrer of traffic to my website, I’m still celebrating this milestone! I’m actually at 2.1 monthly viewers – check it out below:

For those of you new to Pinterest, the number of average monthly viewers is simply how many people saw my pins on Pinterest. They did not necessarily click on one of my pins, let alone save one of them, but they did see it in their feed. The reason why I deem this a milestone is because it’s a clear indication that my Pinterest strategy is solid because Pinterest is showing my pins to their users *and* I’m seeing the results of that on my website traffic. Since website traffic is key to getting more eyes on my work and generating leads, it was worth bringing out my confetti gif to celebrate:

For those who are into stats, here’s a little peek at my website data from last year. I had almost 197k pageviews last year, which means over 500 average pageviews per day! While most of my traffic comes from Google searches, Pinterest is my best source of referral traffic, so I definitely pay attention to what’s going on over on my Pinterest account.

How I Reached 2 Million Average Monthly Viewers on Pinterest

So how did I make this happen? Today I thought I’d share a few tips that I know had a huge impact on the number of monthly viewers on my Pinterest account.

• I narrowed my focus and niched down! I got rid of any boards that weren’t relevant to my ideal client. If you have thousands of views but, as a wedding photographer, you’re pinning about kids activities, home decor, and recipes, then it does you no good to have those views. Simply put: if your Pinterest boards aren’t relevant to your niche then your Pinterest strategy is not going to bring you ideal clients. Do I have boards with kids activities, home decor, and recipes? I sure do! But they’re secret boards that don’t affect my Pinterest algorithm.
• I optimized my profile, pins, and boards in order to be found by the specific type of Pinterest user that aligns with my ideal client. Pinterest is a search engine but my goal with Pinterest isn’t to be found by any bride; it’s to be found by a specific bride, so optimization is key. Personally, I’m looking to attract a timeless and romantic bride looking to plan a wedding in NJ at specific venues near me. Therefore, my Pinterest marketing strategy is designed to attract that specific bride and get her on my website. While it’s true that the more pins you have, the more likely you are to show up in the search results, if they’re not well-optimized, they won’t bring you the results you need.
• I created branded pins that lead to specific pages on my website and posts on my blog. This means that my pins are easily recognizable and effective. This has been so impactful because, in 2020, 56.7% of my referral traffic came from Pinterest! That’s HUGE! It’s more than my Instagram and Facebook referral traffic combined. Basically, if clients are finding me on another site before coming to my website, they’re probably coming from Pinterest.
• I created fresh pins on a regular basis. Not only do I create pins for all the new content on my site, but I regularly go back to older content and create fresh pins to continue to drive traffic to specific spots on my website and blog. This has increased visibility on my account and is undoubtedly one of the top reasons why I’ve been able to reach 2 million average monthly viewers.
• I automated. There’s no way I’d be able to keep up with the amount of pinning I do if I did it manually. By using Tailwind (affiliate link), I’m able to pin strategically and consistently, and we all know it’s all about strategy and consistency when it comes to any type of marketing.

So there you have it! That’s how I reached 2 million average monthly viewers on Pinterest!
