As a wedding photographer, as with any business, it’s really important to stay up to date on what’s going on in the industry in order to stay current and keep booking consistently. Last year, after a couple of months of being in quarantine, I saw the writing on the wall and realized that none of my large weddings were going to happen at least through the summer. I started to think about how I would bring in business to keep my business afloat and decided to start offering collections for intimate weddings. You can view the May 2020 blog post where I announced that here.
It was thanks to that blog post, the fact that I shared this new offering on social media and to my email list, that I was able to start booking micro weddings, and by the end of 2020, I had booked 19 micro weddings for 2020. In late 2020, I stopped offering micro weddings because I was overbooked for 2021, but now, with the start of 2021 looking very similar to 2020 in the wedding world in terms of wedding postponements, I’ve started to promote them again.
More and more couples are inquiring about intimate weddings, or micro weddings, because the restrictions on large gatherings haven’t eased up, and because even if restrictions ease up a bit, couples just don’t want a wedding reception full of faces covered in masks and worried about infections. Not only that, but couples who got engaged in fall of 2020 who started looking at venues for 2021 are finding that they’re already booked due to all the 2020 postponements. Therefore, they’re re-imagining their wedding so they can still get married in 2021 and they’re choosing to plan micro weddings that don’t require large venues.
Micro weddings are a way for us to serve our current clients well, as so many of them are choosing to get married on their original date while postponing their big celebration until late 2021 or even 2022 and they’re also a way for us to fill up our calendars to replace the weddings that are currently being postponed or cancelled due to COVID-19.
If you’re on board with the idea of booking more micro weddings for yourself this year to keep your calendar full, keep reading for my tips!
